Abstract

On many occasions, the productive systems obtain their competitive advantages from the effective management of their warehouses and inventories, where the decision-making fundamentally defines the cost structure and level of customer service. This leads to the design of warehouses becoming a problem of high complexity, especially due to: the problems of size and sizing of all its areas. In this sense, a layout proposal was designed, together with the sizing of all its areas, for the warehouse of finished products in a sugar mill in Imbabura, Ecuador. The effective combination of forecasting tools was used, such as: simulation of discrete events and inventory management models. A better use of the net capacity, the use of the area and the storage height was obtained, for a high level of customer service and reducing the costs for material handling.
