Structural analysis of the management of patient flows with coronavirus in Cuba

Abstract

The reconversion of the health system is a highly relevant strategy in the process of containing and treating a pandemic. The objective of this article is to carry out a structural analysis of the process of managing the Coronavirus Desease (COVID-19) patients flow in Cuba. Among the tools used are direct observation, brainstorming, documentary review, flow diagrams and interviews with experts, complemented by methods for structural analysis such as Matrix of Crossed Impacts - Multiplication Applied to a Classification. From the prospective analysis, the internal and external variables were identified; through the influence relationships, the key variables are determined: Admission Capacity, Patient Management Time, Home hospitalization care and Number of patients on the waiting list to enter. The improvement actions described may contribute to the management of the flow of patients with COVID-19 in the Matanzas territory and they are connected to processes related to integrate management of the pandemic.
