Abstract

The revitalization of heritage public spaces requires not only physical interventions but also a deep understanding of how citizens construct meaning and value those places. This article analyzes the identity and image of Narváez Street in Matanzas (Cuba) through a mixed-methods study with 300 residents, assessing five dimensions. The results show a strong appreciation of social interaction and uniqueness, but also critical deficiencies in safety, signage, technology, and environmental preservation. Based on these findings, the gap between constructed identity and perceived image is discussed, and management strategies aimed at differentiation and strengthening a sense of belonging are proposed. The study provides empirical evidence to rethink the management of public spaces in Cuban heritage urban contexts.
