Tools for assessing environmental sustainability in universities.

Abstract

Universities make an important social, economic, academic, scientific, and technological contribution. However, one of the challenges they face is the assessment of sustainability, where it is necessary to establish indicators that allow for the management of environmental impacts and connect the environmental component with education. This research aimed to systematize the theoretical and methodological foundations of the different tools used in the assessment of environmental sustainability in universities. A descriptive, qualitative, and scientific study was conducted, combining the systematization and triangulation of different sources of information related to the assessment of environmental sustainability in higher education institutions. Through this research, a theoretical analysis of the main instruments used in the assessment of environmental sustainability in universities is conducted. The systematization of the different theoretical frameworks related to the assessment of environmental sustainability shows that there are tools worldwide that are used to support institutions in assessing environmental sustainability. where they promote the rational use of resources, prevent environmental impacts, and optimize the quality of the processes developed at the University
