Abstract

This article is intended to improve the working conditions for the city bus drivers in Cuba. A well-designed workstation guarantees that workers don`t suffer occupational diseases, longer working hours as well as a better job performance. The simple observation method established norms to evaluate certain items related to the busses’ usage. To that end, an opinion poll was applied to 60 bus drivers: 30 from rigid bus and 30 from articulated bus which evaluated 24 items related with the driver’s work. Although, in general, the results were acceptable, it is well known that the drivers suffer from fatigue, stress or overexertion that could increase the risk of traffic accidents. The result of this poll will be very useful to elaborate an instrument that help improve the items considerate inappropriate, and to determine a guideline to evaluate the driver´s position of the imported busses as well as the ones produced in our country.
